Two naxals killed in police encounter

Two naxalites, including Nalgonda district committee secretary of the outlawed CPI (maoist) Diwakar, were killed in a police encounter in Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh tonight.
The exchange of fire took place near Kalwakurthy, about 130 kms from here, when a special police party cornered a group of extremists, police sources said here.

In a fierce encounter that followed, Diwakar alias Ravi and one of his accomplices died while five others escaped, police said.

This is the first major encounter after the state government reimposed ban on maoist groups on August 17 in the wake of spurt in naxalite violence.
