Woman naxalite killed in encounter in AP

Adilabad, Oct. 14 (PTI): A woman naxalite was killed and a police constable sustained injuries during an exchange of fire in the Mangi forest area, about 110 kilometres from here, in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh today, police said.

On a tip-off that some Maoists had assembled to hold a meeting in the forest area under Jannaram police station limits, a special police party went there, police said.

On seeing the police, the Maoists opened fire which was retaliated. In the ensuing firing a woman naxal, who is yet to be identified, died while others managed to escape. A police constable also received bullet injuries, police said.

The district police was on high alert as the state Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy is now on a visit to Adilabad town, the district headquarters.
