Three maoists, two policemen injured in exchange of fire

THENI: Three maoists and two policemen were injured in an exchange of fire at pallathur in varushanadu area near here this morning.

The policemen were injured when the maoists resisted arrest, leading to an exchange of fire. One of the injured maoists was in serious condition, police officials here said.

They said five maoists moving around in villages in the area, including the three injured, were arrested today the injured persons had been admitted to the medical college hospital here, they said.

The varshanadu area, a remote area bordering Kerala has witnessed a revival of naxalite activity in recent months, leading to deployment of extra police contingents to contain their activitites.
