Anti-naxal operations on in Dharmapuri district

Dharmapuri, TN (PTI): A combing operation-cum-awareness campaign against naxalites was conducted in the Marandahalli forest, 52 km from Dharmapuri, by the police on Friday.

District Superintendent of Police Najmul Hoda said the operation, in which the Special Task Force, Q Branch and local police personnel participated, was aimed at creating awareness among the people of about extremists.

The panchayat chiefs of Belrampatti, Thumbalahalli, Keseakulhalla and Makkanamkombai and surrounding tribal population had been asked to inform the police about movement of any strangers in the area.

Police sources said no naxals were sighted during the combing operation.

Meanwhile, tight security had been made in the district to prevent any untoward incident tomorrow, the anniversary of the Babri masjid demolition.

A team of bomb disposal squad was conducting random checks with the help of sniffer dogs, police said.
