Chhattisgarh HC: PUCL vice president's bail plea rejected

The Chhattisgarh High Court has rejected bail plea of People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) National Vice-President Vinayak Sen, who has been arrested on a charge of aiding naxalites.

Justice Sunil Sinha rejected the bail plea of Dr Sen and West Bengal’s Piyush Guha yesterday.

Dr Sen was arrested from Bilaspur and Piyush Guha on May 14, 2007 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act, 2006, for their alleged links with Maoists.

Dr Sen was charged with delivering messages of jailed naxal leader Nayaran Sanyal to Piyush Guha. The hearing in the case against them was going on in Raipur district court.

Earlier, Dr Sen and Piyush Guha had submitted a bail plea in 2007 but was rejected by the High Court on July 23, 2007. Later, the Supreme Court rejected the bail plea on December 10, 2007.
