State to have ISD on the lines of NSG

Express News Service First Published : 05 Dec 2008 04:07:00 AM ISTLast Updated : 05 Dec 2008 12:25:28 PM ISTBANGALORE: In the backdrop of growing terror threat on the state, the state government has decided to raise an internal security division on the lines of National Security Guards (NSG).


The state Cabinet which met here on Thursday approved the raising of internal security division under an officer of the rank of ADGP.

“About 750 personnel would be selected and be given commando training,” Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje told reporters.

These trained men will be deployed in equal numbers to Anti-Terrorism Squad, Coastal Security Police, Anti-Left Wing Terrorism and State Intelligence Stream, she added.

The Cabinet stamped its approval for purchase of 500 vehicles with GPS facility for police operating in naxal affected districts. Besides, 100 vehicles would be provided for Hoysala.
