Naxal problem requires attention of policy makers: CCSR

Bhubaneswar, Jan 20 : Naxalism had its genesis in protest against social and economic inequalities which demanded priority attention of policy-makers, the Commission on Centre-State Relations (CCSR) said today.

"Naxalism has increasingly become analogous to acts of terrorism which are characterised by outrightly irrational and heinous conduct, and are completely devoid of any semblance of human rationality," CCSR chairman Justice M M Punchhi told a gathering of policy-makers from six states in the central and eastern region at a two-day workshop here.

Asking the states and the Centre to desist from a blame game over Naxal activities, Justice Punchhi said both should find out short-term and long-term solutions to the problem.

The Centre has prepared a Rs 12,000 crore scheme for dealing with the Naxalite problem, CCSR member
