Bangalore : Additional security forces will be deployed in naxal-prone areas of Karnataka to ensure free and fair Lok Sabha elections, slated for April 23 and 30, State Director General and Inspector General of Police Ajay Kumar Singh said today.

Participating at a Meet the Press programme, organised jointly by the Reporters Guild and Press Club here, he said additional forces, comprising more than 600 officers, would be deployed near polling booths in the naxal-prone districts of Udupi, Chikmagalur and Shimoga. The additional forces included a KSRP Commandant, ten Assistant Commandants, an Additional SP and four Deputy SPs.

There were 220 polling booths in Naxal-hit areas, coming under 18 police station limits. ''There is no need for any apprehensions during elections and people need not worry about security during polling,'' he added.
