KORAPUT: Three Maoists were arrested during a raid on a camp inside Kalipeta forest, about 140 km from Rayagada, on Friday night. They have been
identified as Tutu Palka, Bradi Pratinga and Jaga Ekabadi, all belonging to the Bansadhara Dalam. They had joined the Maoist movement three years ago.

"We had information that around 35 rebels were present in the camp. So CRPF and SOG jawans launched a joint operation. Spotting the security personnel, the Red rebels fled under the cover of darkness. We could only arrest three Maoists. Combing operation has been intensified in and around Chandrapur," Rayagada SP Asish Kumar Singh said.

Huge amount of materials used for preparing landmines, explosives, three guns, medicines, posters, kit-bags and Maoist literature were found on the spot. Most posters carried the poll boycott message. "The Maoists had gathered to plan out a major operation in either Gajapati, Rayagada and Kandhamal districts before the polls," the SP said.

The three arrested Maoists belong to the armed squad and were engaged as sentry of the camp. Security has been strengthened across the district to avoid any eventuality, Singh said. A few days ago, Red rebels through massive postering in Chandrapur, Gudari and Bissamkatak areas had asked people to boycott the polls.
