KOLKATA: A CPM leader of Belpahari has announced that she has quit her party, allegedly after being threatened by Maoists. Benuka Mondal, the
upa-pradhan of Bhulabheda, put up several posters in the area on Sunday, declaring that she was no longer with CPM.

A gang of around 12 women from the Maoists' women's squad reportedly raided Mondal's home early in the morning. The CPM leader was allegedly beaten up and threatened with dire consequences if she didn't dissociate herself from the party.

"We have heard of the incident, but we have not come across the posters ourselves," said Belpahari CPM zonal committee secretary Amiya Sengupta.
