Naxalite evading arrest for 37 years in police net

Chennai , Apr 13 A naxal, in hiding for the last 37 years and wanted in connection with several cases including murder, has been arrested near Villupuram, police said today.

Arthanareeswaran (64) alias Manikkam, a member of the banned CPI (ML) was arrested at Vikravandi in Villupuram yesterday by the Q branch of police, an official press release here said. The&aposQ&aposbranch deals with extremist activities.

Wanted in four murder cases, he had three non-bailable warrants pending against him, the release said, adding he had worked as the banned outfit&aposs state secretary in Dharmapuri district in the 1970s.

Following a meeting with naxal leader Charu Mazumdar, he got"inspired"to kill persons branded as"class enemies,"the release said, adding he had been heading the organisation living underground for the last 37 years.
