Suspecting role of political opponents in the killing of its candidate in Maoist-infested Malkangiri assembly segment, Samrudha Odisha today demanded a CBI probe into the murder and postponement of polls in entire Orissa.

Samrudha Odisha's candidate for the Malkangiri assembly seat Somnath Madkami was killed yesterday, sparking fear among candidates of various political parties. Though police attributed the killing to Maoists, the regional outfit did not accept it.

"It is wrong to dub all crimes and murders as acts of Naxalites", Samrudha Odisha Secretary General Prabir Mohanty said in a memorandum to the Governor.

Claiming that Madkami was confident of winning the elections this time, the party suspected that he might have been killed by political opponents.

This apart, Madkami was also not on the hit list of Maoists and had also never received any threat from the red rebels, he said.
