Eleven CRPF personnel were killed and as many injured when the truck in which they were travelling was blown up by naxals in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.

Director General of Police Vishwa Ranjan told PTI that the incident took place late evening at Kokanara village, nearly 375 kilometres from here.

He said the naxalites blew up the truck, which was bringing back personnel to Tonagapal from a patrol.

A 53-member joint police-CRPF team had gone on patrol after getting information that the militants had burnt down a truck near Kokanara village where a road is being constructed.

They were coming back from patrol and had boarded two trucks and a jeep when the naxals ambushed them. They blew up the truck and exchanged fire with the personnel, the DGP said.

After getting information, the SP and other police officials rushed to the site with additional force, he said.
