Arrested naxalites remanded to police custody

Vellore (TN), June 17 Two suspected naxalites, arrested on June 10 by Tamil Nadu police after remaining elusive for 34 years, have been remanded to police custody for three days by a local court.

Sivalingam, a former Southern Railway engine driver, who had spearheaded many agitations in Railways and was involved in many cases, and his relative and close associate Swaminathan were arrested from a village in Tiruvallur district and a Chennai suburb respectively.

They were yesterday produced before Tirupattur Magistrate Asim Bhanu who remanded them to the"Q"branch police custody for interrogation in the pending cases against them.
