Centre hints Jharkhand to fill-up police vacancies soon

Ranchi, June 29: The Centre on Monday hinted that Maoist affected Jharkhand should fill-up vacant posts lying in the police department.

"I think the state has lot of vacancies in its own posts. And as you have seen everywhere the Centre will give adequate forces, but the primary responsibility lies with the state government," said Gopal Pillay, who takes over as the new Union Home Secretary tomorrow, told newsmen here.

He was responding to a query as to whether Jharkhand has adequate central forces to deal with the ultra-leftwing outfits, who destroy government infrastructure frequently.

"I am sure we have full confidence, once the state forces are trained, they can tackle the (Maoist) menace," he added.

Six Naxal outfits operate in eighteen of the 24 districts in Jharkhand, which lost 26 policemen in their attacks this month.
