Chhattisgarh encounter ends, CRPF launches combing operations

Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), June 08: Five security personnel, including an Assistant Commandant of CRPF, were on Monday injured in an encounter with the naxals here.

The encounter, which erupted this morning in the thick jungles under the Gangalur police station, lasted for nearly five hours, during which Assistant Commandant of CRPF's 85 Battalion Satwant Singh was injured along with one head constable and a jawan, officials said. Two Special Police Officers of the Chhattisgarh police were also injured in the encounter which began soon after a team of the CRPF and the local police entered the forests based on inputs that a group of naxals were present there.

All the five injured were airlifted to Jagdalpur and Raipur for treatment, officials said adding another head constable, who had sustained minor injuries, was administered first-aid.

The CRPF has launched a combing operation to ascertain the exact casualty on the Naxal's side as blood marks were found in the forests.

Officials said the Naxals usually take away their dead or injured companions.
