23 Jun 2009, 0438 hrs IST, TNN

Bangalore : The government is working out a package to rehabilitate Naxals who give up arms and surrender.

Home minister V S Acharya on Monday said the package will be ready in a month's time. A series of meetings are being held to work out the modalities. He has already met chief executive officers, deputy commissioners and the police top brass.

"The Naxal menace is declining, and in the recent elections, people have shown they support the democratic set-up. We are making progress. I hope tp find a peaceful and lasting solution,'' Acharya said.

Though there is Naxal presence in seven districts of Karnataka, it is not in the Centre's list of Naxal-affected states.
