Maharashtra plans police revamp to fight naxals

Staff Reporter

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Home Minister Jayant Patil on Tuesday proposed restructuring the police in the naxal-infested district of Gadchiroli. His suggestion comes in the wake of two brutal naxal attacks in the district that borders Chhattisgarh.

Addressing the Assembly on the second day of the monsoon session, Mr. Patil said there should be two police districts in Gadchiroli. He suggested that the jurisdiction of the Nagpur headquarters be expanded to cover the Nagpur, Gadchiroli and Gondia regions.
