Maoist posters in Santiniketan

22 Jun 2009, 0402 hrs IST, TNN

SANTINIKETAN: A number of Maoist posters, condemning the Lalgarh operation, were found in Santiniketan early on Sunday.

The posters around eight in number were found at various spots: near the SBI building, the Visva-Bharati central library, the Mandir, near Shiksha Bhavan and on a water tank near the home of Nobel laureate Amartya Sen.

All the spots from where the posters were recovered are outside the area demarcated by the university fencing.

The district police, however, are not giving much importance to the posters.

"The posters do not indicate in any way that Maoists are active in this area. We will, however, investigate who were responsible," said a senior officer of the district police. The posters were later removed by police.
