PURULIA: A group of armed Maoists blew up a country liquor godown at Kurmi village under Balarampur police station on Tuesday night and threatened
the family members of a CPM local committee member of Dardan, asking him to quit the party.

The armed gang first went to the house of Dardan local committee member Fatik Mandal around 11 pm on Tuesday. Not finding him at home, the men threatened his family members with dire consequences if he did not quit the party within a week. They also asked the family members to convey to him the message that he must publicly announce this through leaflets.

Then they went to the country liquor godown of a local, Ganesh Mondol. The shop was closed and the Maoists blew it up with a landmine. Before leaving, they left behind leaflets that said it is a crime to drink and asked people not to touch liquor. Since the godown, which is located in an open space, was closed, no one was injured.

Purulia SP Rajesh Yadav said the matter was being investigated.
