Naxal issue likely to get a new twist

BHUBANESWAR: The politics over Naxalism is sure to hot up once Union Home Minister P Chidambaram arrives here tomorrow on two-day visit to Orissa. He will fly to Koraput district where he is scheduled to inspect the hilltop magazine house of National Aluminium Company at Damanjodi which was targeted by the Left wing extremists on April 12 leaving 11 CISF personnel dead. He will then meet the collectors and the SPs of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada to assess the security situation in the region which also happens to be the hot bed of Left extremist activities.

The spate of Naxal violence in the State and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s penchant for blaming the Centre for the deterioration in the situation is most likely to get a new twist with Chidambaram’s visit.

In fact, Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily, who came calling a few days back, had already set the tone by rapping the Chief Minister for blame game.

However, Chidambaram’s two-day stay will include a visit to Kandhamal on Friday. He would go to the relief camps in Raikia and sites where communal violence had taken place.

He would meet Naveen Patnaik before flying back.
