ORISSA: CM meets top army officer; discusses security situation

Bhubaneswar , June 25 Upset over spurt in Maoist attacks in Orissa, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today met a top Army official of the Central Command, triggering speculation that the state was seeking army help to tackle the menace.

"We are ready to provide any kind of help to the state it wants," Commanding Officer of Army&aposs Central command Lt Gen J K Mohanty told reporters after the meeting.

On the possible intervention by army in Koraput, he said"it is a political decision."

The meeting assumes significance as it came hours before the commencement of the two-day visit of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to the state, where Maoists struck in a big way attacking a railway station, damaging communication towers and looting a block office in Koraput district.
