Senior Naxal leader surrenders in Vizianagaram

Hyderabad, June 09: A senior leader of the CPI(Maoist) Kondagorri Kurma Rao alias Kurranna gave himself up to the police in Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

He was a member of the Maoist Nagavali area committee and was involved in several offences, including blasting of Gummada railway station, a mandal development office, and attack on Udayagiri police station.

Vizianagaram district Superintendent of Police Y Gangadhar, before whom Kurranna surrendered today, said the latter was vexed with the Maoist philosophy and wanted to re-join the mainstream of life.

He was also upset with Maoist leadership after having served the banned outfit in various capacities since 1993, Gangadhar said.

He said surrendered Maoists would be rehabilitated as per the government policy and added that they would not be harassed in any manner.
