CoBRA ready to set up base in Gaya

GAYA — The fully trained and ready-to-be-deployed CoBRA (Combat Battalion for Resolute Action) force, which was raised on an urgent basis to deal with Naxals, has now acquired two more plots other than the existing ones at Hazaribagh and Jagdalpur for setting up its bases in left-wing extremism hit states.

Sources said the force has acquired land at Gaya in Bihar and Bhandara in Maharashtra.

Sources said the bases would be raised within this fiscal only.

The CRPF, under whose command and control the CoBRA force would function is currently providing specialised training to the personnel of the new force.

There has been increased level of Naxal violence especially in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, Maharashtra and West Bengal. The country has witnessed a total of 1,128 incidents of Naxal violence till June 30 this year which left 455 civilians and security forces dead.
