Construction firm staff held for aiding Maoists

The police on Tuesday arrested a manager of a construction company, Naresh Sharma, for allegedly supplying wireless sets and bullet-proof jackets to CPI(Maoist) cadres.

The company that Sharma works for, Shekhar Constructions, is engaged in at least two mega projects in Maoist-hit Palamau — it’s building a Rs 50-crore bridge over river Amanat and a Rs 75-crore road between Daltonganj and Panki.

Maoists rule the roost here and nobody can carry out development projects without greasing their palms. According to the FIR filed at the Chutia Police Station, Sharma was hand in glove with the Maoists. Apart from paying them a part of the project cost, Sharma, who was provided armed security by the government, allegedly supplied them wireless sets and bullet-proof jackets, states the FIR.

“We have evidence showing Sharma supplied modern equipment to Maoists,” said Palamau SP Mohit Bundas.
