The Vadodara rural police have suspended eight of its officials from the Kwant police station, where a jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF), Noora Rathwa, was allegedly killed on July 17.

The eight have been identified as R S Chauhan (sub-inspector), Amrut Rathwa, Ranchhod Govindbhai, Vegji Chakubhai, Arvind Dhanka, Arjun Sanghada, Ambalal Dholabhai and Suresh Mathurbhai (all constables).

According to the police, all of them have gone underground.

A senior Vadodara rural police official told Newsline: “The evidence gathered during our investigations suggests that these officials were directly involved in the incident and they were present when Rathwa was killed… we will soon declare them absconders, as they have not turned up before the investigating officials.”

Rathwa (42), a BSF personnel from the 36th Battalion, was posted in West Bengal to fight Naxal menace. However, he allegedly had to bear the batons and the blows of the policemen from his own village Hamirpura, one-and-a half km from Kwant where he died on July 17.

Around 200 villagers had surrounded the Kwant police station after the accused policemen allegedly killed Rathwa in the custody.
