The residents of Kuldihi village, tucked between forests, preferred to face bullets or get arrested to letting their birds fall in poachers' hands. For, its their age-old tradition to take care of and protect birds and bats from the killers.

"The tradition has been continuing for years and the state's forest department has provided all possible support to the villagers' 'noble' intention," Amiyomoy Dey, Lalgarh Forest Range officer, said.
