Maoists, security force exchange fire near Lalgarh

Lalgarh (WB), July 31 (PTI) Maoists and joint security forces today exchanged fire at Bhulageria, near Lalgarh where an anti-Naxal operation is on, even as two abducted policemen still remained untraced.

Some people were injured in the firing at Bhulageria, 10 km from here, in West Midnapore, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen told reporters in Kolkata, adding though there were reports about two Maoists getting killed in the police firing, they were yet to be confirmed.

Police said the Maoists fired at jawans and armed police personnel at Bhulageria this afternoon prompting the security personnel to retaliate.

One of the injured was identified as Laxmikant Soren, unconfirmed reports raid.

The gun-battle was preceded by a procession of the People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA), a tribal organisation spearheading Lalgarh agitation and allegedly backed by Naxalites, in the area demanding a halt in the joint police-security force operation in the embattled zone.
