ANANTAPUR: Pipe bombs, generally used by Maoists and splinter group naxalites, have found their way into the hands of factionists of Rayalaseema region.

The use of pipe bombs came to light when the police found out that a TDP faction group led by a woman had hatched a plan to eliminate its Congress rivals. Slain TDP leader Pavurala Dubbaraju's wife Shivabala had reportedly developed a grudge against Congress leader Pala Mallikarjuna's family and approached Bheem Reddy, former pseudo naxal, to fetch her weapons.

She entered into an agreement with Bheem Reddy for Rs 3 lakh to manufacture pipe bombs and paid Rs 15,000 in advance. "They hatched the plan to eliminate Mallikarjuna and his close aides by operating pipe bombs," district SP M K Singh said.

The II Town police nabbed Bheem Reddy along with two pipe bombs in the town during routine checks late on Saturday night.
