LUCKNOW: Security was beefed up naxalite affected districts in the state on Sunday in wake of naxalite attack in Chattisgarh while a heavy security

blanket was thrown around the Kanwariyas passing through Muzaffarnagar following intelligence alert of a terror strike on the Shiv devout.

Additional director general of police (ADG), crime, Brij Lal said that additional police force was rushed to the naxalite affected districts of Chandauli, Mirzapur and Sonebhadra in wake of the Chattisgarh attack. "We have deployed mine-proof armoured vehicles and additional PAC re-enforcements. Directives have been issued to ensure regular patrolling and proper security precautions around the police stations and camps as the security agencies have been the target of naxalites," Lal said.

Meanwhile, security was beefed up on all the routes in Muzaffarnagar which are being used by the Kanwariyas following an intelligence alert. "Intelligence agencies have issued an alert stating that since a large number of Kanwariyas were expected to pass through Muzaffarnagar, the event could attract the attention of the terror outfits who are always looking for crowded locations to trigger blasts," said police officer in Muzaffarnagar.

Authorities in Muzaffarnagar said that almost 90 per cent of the Kanwariyas on the move for their holy trip, pass through the district during the first week of Shrawan. Additional Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been deployed in the district. Over a dozen anti-sabotage squads and sniffer dogs are being pressed into service
