RAYAGADA: Coinciding with Naxal bandh in Orissa and Jharkhand, a teenaged Naxal couple surrendered before SP A. K. Singh here today. They are identified as Dhasu alias Surendra Brakbeda (19), son of Saheb Brakbeda of Uradi village under Bissam-Cuttack police station and Rupi Pidikaka alias Jaya (18), daughter of Lengada Pidikaka of village Golonda under Gudari police station of the district. While Dhasu is an active area committee member since 2004 and a special action team member of Bansadhara Division, Rupi joined the outfit in 2006 and was a leading Gangudi dalam of Gajapati.

Though Dhasu joined the Maoist organisation at the age of 13, he became a regular cadre in 2004 and was absorbed in special action team later. Both are said to be involved in a number of Naxal attacks, the last being Dongasarada police station attack on December 11, 2008. Both married recently, said Singh. In last couple of months, eight hardcore Naxalites, including two couples, have surrendered.
