Red flag mushrooming in Orissa’s Koraput District

Monday, August 31, 2009

Report by Manoj Kumar Das; Koraput: Now days the tribal dominated areas of undivided Koraput is now converted into Naxal hit areas. At the same time, past few months the CAMS (Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha) are openly discharging the power over Koraput and the Govt. Fails to control. Due to which along with Koraput the neighbour districts faces lots of problems.

Reportedly, few years ago to avail the justice of not getting their rights and to get back their fore-fathers lands from non-tribals. CMAS has started the protest against the government. To have the control over the protest, the government had divided the 7 Tahasils into 14 Tahasils. After dividing these tahasils the work is slowed up as per earlier.

In the district, one tahasil is build up with adding two sub-divisional tahasils. Earlier Koraput, Kotpad, Jeypore, Boriguma, Machkund, Pottangi and Nandpur were there and latter on it was divided in Semiliguda, Laxmipur, Bandhugam, Dasmantpur, Kundra and Boipariguda. To overcome the vacancy in these tahasils 14 tahasildars, 7 Add. Tahasildars, 15 Revenue Supervisor, 96 RI, 94 ARI and 17 ammins were appointed. But in Bandhugam, Boipariguda and Kundra Tahasils no officials reported to the office resulting obstacle in official works. Now days in 14 Tahasils, 3 Tahasildars, 7 Add. Tahasildars, 1 Revenue Supervisor, 16 RI, 37 ARI and 20 Ammins post are vaccaned. In Narayanpatna, Bandhugam, Laxmipur, etc tahasil areas are occupied under the Banner of Red flags (CMAS) and they demonstrate their power and presence openly. Like CMAS, many sanghas are mushrooming under the Banner of red flag in many places in koraput like, Villages in Sunabeda, Semiliguda, Damanjodi etc. due to lack of perfect administration control over these areas.
