Maoists ‘abduct’ five CPM men from Jhargram, release 3

As many as five persons were allegedly abducted by Maoists from Jhargram on Sunday night. While three of them were later released, two local CPM leaders, including a gram panchayat member, are still reported missing.



According to police sources, nearly 50 armed Maoist cadres stormed the Manikpara village in Jhargram sub-division last night and abducted the five CPM supporters — Khudiram Mudi, Ajit Mahato, Joy Mahato, Bijoy Mahato and Ganesh Mahato.



The five were taken to Nuniakudri jungles from where Joy, Bijoy and Ganesh were released. Khudiram Mudi, member of Manikpara gram panchayat, and Ajit Mahato, former branch committee secretary of CPM in Lalgeria, are still reported missing, said sources.



“Two persons are still reported missing. We have launched a search operation, but are yet to trace them,” said Superintendent of Police, West Midnapore, Manoj Verma.




Police forces were rushed to the Nuniakudri forest where they conducted a day-long search operation On Monday.



Ajit Mahato, former branch secretary of Lalgeria and former gram panchayat member of Lalgeria gram panachayat, had left the CPM three months ago after Maoist threats, police said. Khudiram, however, continued with active politics for CPM despite receiving threats from Maoists
