JMM leader killed, jawan hurt in firing

MIDNAPORE: The body of a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader was recovered from Kadasole jungle on Tuesday even as the five-day PCPA-sponsored bandh
started in Jangalmahal. In another incident, a jawan sustained bullet injuries in a shootout between the joint forces and Maoists in Salboni.

Suspected Maoists abducted and gunned down JMM leader Satya Hansda (38) from Shirisboni in Goaltore on Monday night. Police recovered his body on Tuesday morning. Hours later, a little after noon, there was an hour-long exchange of fire between the Maoists and joint forces near Pirrakhuli jungle. The forces were on patrolling duty when the shootout began. BSF jawan Chandrik Singh was injured in the firing.

Maoist leader Bikash said: "Hansda was a Gana Pratirodh Committee leader who was hand-in-glove with CPM. People decided to punish Hansda and we executed it."

SP Manoj Verma said: "We suspect Maoists gunned down Hansda. In the other incident, we admitted the injured jawan to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital."
