Maoists carry out another Taliban-style beheading

2 Dec 2009, 0948 hrs IST

Another savage killing by the Maoists, a teacher has been beheaded in West Midnapore district of West Bengal.

Police in the region recovered the body of a school teacher Satyanarayan Hansda who had been reported kidnapped allegedly by Maoists from his village near Goaltore in West Midnapore.

His decapitated body was found in a jungle close to his village. Hansda was not only a school teacher in his village but also an active member of the Gana Pratirodh Committee - a rival of the Maoist-backed People's Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA).

According to sources Hansda had been threatened by ultras because of his work against the Maoists.

The Superintendent of police in Midnapore, M K Verma, said yesterday a probe had already been initiated into the incident. He said police were trying to determine why the perpetrators killed the school teacher and dumped his body at Goaltore area when he actually hails from neighbouring Purulia district.

Savage killings by the Maoists have become an alarming trend. Maoists are continuing their cold-blooded killing spree in open defiance of the Centre's warnings. Barely two months ago Maoists butchered and beheaded Inspector Francis Induwar. His body was recovered almost a week later with a note from the Maoists claiming responsibility.

Just three days later on October 9, Maoists struck again this time in Maharashtra where they brutally killed 30-year-old Suresh Bajirao, a villager they suspected to be a police informant.
