Lalgarh: Maoist ultras today attacked Lalgarh police station and a combined forces camp at Katapahari simultaneously in West Midnapore district.

District Magistrate N S Nigam said about 30 to 40 Maoist ultras attacked the Lalgarh police station and the combined forces camp at Katapahari, about 1.5 km from here, at about 1900 hrs.

Policemen from the station and personnel of combined forces retaliated by firing on the Maoists, he said adding after brief gunbattles the ultras fled the places.

All the police stations of Lalgarh and Belpahari were put on high alert in an anticipation that the Maoists would attack the stations in protest against the killing of People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) president Lalmohan Tudu, he added.

Tudu was killed in a gunbattle with combined forces few days ago.
