Orissa Government decides to provide adequate security to explosives factories

Bhubaneswar : Gulf Oil Corporation and Indian Explosive , two companies in Sundergarh district are producing explosive materials. As the Naxal activities in the district is increasing day by day, the state government on Monday decided in a High level meeting under the Chairmanship of Home secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi to provide adequate security to these two companies and also instructed to transport the explosive materials in day time only under high security basing on the report of the intelligence. It is to mention here that during last year 8.1 MT explosives were looted.

For Mining extraction about 50 thousand MTs of explosives required in a year. In Sundergarh district two big explosive producers unit Gulf Oil Corporation and Indian Explosive Company are producing explosives. During the year 2004 an explosive transport vehicle were highjack and during the year 2009 another incident occurred. Maoists had looted the explosives from the transport vehicle carrying 8.1 MT explosives near Champajharan and after loot, they set fire to the truck. Similarly explosives were looted from Hilltop of Koraput district.

In this high level meeting Home Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, I.G. Operation Sanjib Marik, I.G. Intelligence Prakash Chandra Mishra, Mining Security Officer, representatives of explosive producing companies and Controller of Explosives , Nagpur were present.
