Maoist surrenders in Parlakhemundi

PARLAKHEMUNDI: A Maoist cadre of the Bansadhara Committee surrendered before the Gajapati SP Sanjeev Arora here today. The cadre has been identified as Jayob Majhi of Raigonda village under Adaba police limits.

Jayob told mediapersons today that he joined the organisation five years back at a meeting held by the red rebels in his village. He said though he was assured a monthly salary of Rs 1,800 at the time of joining, he was not paid anything besides, was being exploited by his seniors as a reason why, he quit the organisation. He added that the organisation was deviating from its ideology.

Jayob admitted to his involvement in forest beat house attack at Panigonda, Zhiliki landmine blast and torching of OSRTC busses at Raiponka. He also provided logistical support to the Maoists.

The SP said Jayob would be provided all assistance as per the surrender policy of the government. This is the third Maoist surrender in the district.
