Raipur:

The Chhattisgarh government has decided to increase the special ex gratia from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh to be paid to the families of state police officials and employees in the event of their death in Naxal violence. Chief Minister Raman Singh took the decision at a meeting with senior officials who reviewed the situation arising out the April 6 attack in Dantewada where 75 CRPF personnel and a state police head constable were killed. An official spokesman said the decision to increase the ex gratia amount to Rs 15 lakh was taken in order to match up to the special ex gratia being paid to central paramilitary forces in the event of their death in a terrorist incident. The state already has a scheme under which a government employee gets an insurance cover if Rs 10 lakh in the event of his or her death in Naxalite violence.
