In a first, CRPF gives appointment letters to minors of martyrs’ families

Lucknow : For the first time in its history, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has issued advance appointment letters to 20 minors, all relatives of the CRPF men from the state who died in the Naxal ambush at Dantewada on April 6. With nobody in the families of these 20 martyred men currently eligible to avail of the jobs, the CRPF has issued letters offering appointment to these minors when they turn 18.
Among them is Savitri Devi, wife of slain constable Vinod Kumar Yadav of Sangrampur, Sultanpur district, who has been given the appointment letter for her son, Abhishek, who was born on February 18, 2007.

The letters of appointment for one person from the families of each of the 75 martyred CRPF men are being distributed and the process is likely to be completed by April 28, said an official, adding this is the first time such letters are being issued and financial packages being disbursed so promptly.

CRPF Deputy Commandant, Central Sector headquarters, Satbir Singh said, “An amount of Rs 26.60 lakh has been released for the next of the kin of each of the 75 personnel across the country. The CRPF group centres in all states concerned, including UP, have been asked to issue the appointment letters to the families living in nearby districts.”

Singh said the group centres at Bijnore, Rampur, Allahabad and the Central sector are making arrangements to hand over letters to the families of all 43 martyrs from Uttar Pradesh.

In a first, a 35-year-old man was offered a job even as the prescribed age for recruitment in the force is between 18 and 23 years. The other 35-year-old to be given the offer is from Ernakulam in Kerala.

“They were considered for the job because both the slain jawans were unmarried, and the only other eligible person in their families, were their mothers,” Singh said.

Dharmendra Kumar (35), brother of slain constable Arendra Kumar of Etah district, completed the formalities at the Rampur group centre on Friday.

Fifteen relatives of the matyred CRPF men from the state have, meanwhile, consented to join the force on April 28. Among them is 20-year-old Cheena of Gunnaur, Budaun district, who is the daughter of slain sub-inspector Zamir-ul Hasan, and 18-year-old Devendra Tiwari of Ahirauli, Ambedkar Nagar district, son of slain S-I Brijesh Kumar Tiwari.

CRPF Inspector General of Central Sector B K Sharma handed over the appointment letter to Devendra at the Bijnore group centre in Lucknow on Friday.

Also, the pregnant wives of four CRPF jawans have given their consent to join the organisation after a year.

The entire work is being handled by the headquarters of the Central Sector of the CRPF at Lucknow, which controls the 62 battalion that suffered heavy losses in the ambush.
