Second attack on Dantewada in fortnight

21 Apr 2010, 0903 hrs IST

For the second time in a fortnight, Maoists have struck in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. Although there were no casualties, sources tell TIMES NOW, Naxals could be monitoring the CRPF personnels' response or even aiding terrorists in escaping to Orissa.

As many as 400-500 armed Maoists opened fire at 5 separate CRPF camps late Tuesday night (April 20-21).

No casualties have been reported yet. This is the same area where Maoists massacred 76 CRPF and one state police constable on April 6.

The Maoists fired from a distance on the camps where the paramilitary personnel and policemen were resting. The CRPF and the policemen retaliated, sparking intermittent firing from the Maoists.

The SP of Dantewada has said that the attack could be Maoists' ploy to facilitate the escape of their men into Orissa.

All CRPF and police camps in the area have been put on high alert after the incident.
