Woman Naxal surrenders

VISAKHAPTNAM: Sindree Kondamma alias Nirmala, an 18-year-old female Naxal member of the Korukonda Area Committee, surrendered before Visakha Rural SP Vineet Brijlal on Saturday due to health problems.

An illiterate girl belonging to the primitive tribal group Kondu, Nirmala said she was forcibly inducted into the Maoist outfit when she was 14 years old. She said she had participated in three raids and three exchange of fire incidents.

Apparently, she came over ground a month ago and got married to a former militia member Marri Ranju. After knowing about the government schemes, she decided to surrender before the police in view of her health problems.

According to the SP, there are another 10 minor girls in the Maoist squads in the Visakha forests.
