|21st Dec, 2010: Additional Director General for Law And Order M Ratan on Tuesday revealed that 4 hardcore Maoists, including a woman, had laid down their arms before the police on Monday, expressing dissatisfaction with the movement.|
The 4 Maoists, 2 in Adilabad and 2 in Visakhapatnam, belonged to Maharashtra State Committee and Andhra Orissa Border.
D G Ratan told media persons in Hyderabad on Tuesday that the Maoists had put down their weapons citing the fading Maoist movement.
One of the Maoists has been identified as Anand of Adilabad district, a member of the Maharashtra State Committee, on whom the government had announced a reward of Rs. 10 lakh for his capture.
Similarly Saritha, a Divisional Committee member of North Gadchiroli, had a reward of Rs. 3 lakh on her head.
The 2 other Maoists, who surrendered from Visakahapatnam area, are Killu Raju alias Krishna Kannavaram and Srikanth from Koyyuru Mandal in Vishakhapatnam, who had carried a reward of Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 50,000 on their heads respectively.
Maoist Anand, who spent more than 25 years in jail, said that he wanted to spend his remaining life by joining in the mainstream and living in peace in society, particularly with his family members.
"We have laid down our weapons due to our age, and want to lead a non-violent life. Whatever was done in the past is bygone, we did our utmost for the movement. Now, we quit without desire" stated surrendered woman Maoist Saritha.
Warangal IG range R P Thakur, Vishakhapatnam IG Range officer VK Singh, and Adilabad Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar were present.
