Malkangiri: The combing operation in Mao-infested areas have been intensified jointly by Odisha, Andhra and Chhattisgarh Police along with Border Security Force as the extremists are gearing to celebrate ‘Sahid Saptah’ or the martyrs’ week.
One of the top leaders of the Maoists, Benu has given a call to all the ultras to observe martyrs’ week between July 28 and August 4 in the memory of their slain leaders. In audio released by the Koraput-Visakha Secretary, Benu speaks of the supposed atrocities of Andhra and Odisha Governments. He urges all to join their ‘revolution’. Similar audios by his Telangana and Chhattisgarh counterparts are also said to have been released.
Yesterday, a constable of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was killed by two outlawed Communist Party of India (CPI) (Maoist) rebels in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district.
Expecting heightened extremist activity in Maoist-hit districts during this ‘Sahid Saptah’, the combing operation has been intensified in Odisha and its neighbouring states.
Malknagiri SP Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari confirmed the same for the district in a briefer to media persons. He reassured all the residents that Odisha Police and the Government is always working towards their betterment.
“Please do not join the propaganda activities while fearing them. Do inform us if you feel threatened in any way and we will take necessary action. If anyone is willing to leave the Maoist camp, I appeal you to join the mainstream life. The State Government has defined policies for those willing to return to normal life,” said Khilari
