UP to establish Anti-Naxal Cell

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government has decided to consietute a specialised 'Anti-Naxal Cell' in the state to deal with the problem of extremism.

The Cell would be formed under the direct control of the Varanasi Zone Inspector General of Police.

The proposed body would ensure quick response against Naxalite activities in the state, and also take pro-active measures to pre-empt these by keeping a vigil in the Naxal infested areas.

Home department principal secretary Alok Sinha said here today that approval had been granted to create a total of 72 temporary posts under the Cell.

''The state government has sanctioned Rs 61.67 lakh for the purpose,'' he informed.

Sonebhadra, Mirzapur and Chandauli districts are the three worst Naxalite affected districts in UP
