Frontranking naxal leader arrested in Jharkhand

In a major breakthrough, Jharkhand police has claimed to have arrested Nabin Bhattacharya, the mastermind behind the naxal movement in Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal and Orissa.

Police said here today that the dreaded naxal leader was arrested from Saranda forest in West Singhbhum district yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, police nabbed Mr Bhattacharya when the lattar was en route to attend a function of the Peoples' Guerrilla Army.

Mr Bhattacharya was suspected to be the brain behind the Jehanabad and Giridih incidents.

Police also seized naxal literature and other documents from the arrested ultra.

He had been brought to Jamshedpur for further interrogation, police said adding information from him will help unravel the proscribed group's plans.
