Security tightened for Jamshedpur bypoll

Jamshedpur, Aug. 28 (PTI): Security has been beefed up in East Singhbhum district ahead of the byelection to the Jamshedpur parliamentary seat tomorrow, officials said here today.

"Altogether 57 companies of security forces including 50 companies of CRPF, BSF, ITBP will be deployed particularly in extremist-affected Ghatsila sub-division, where CPI (Maoists) pasted posters calling the people to boycott the by-election few days ago," they said.

A chopper will also be put in service to keep vigil on naxal attacks during the poll, they added.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has fielded Suman Mahto, widow of slained MP Sunil Mahto, whose killing by naxals at Baghuria in Ghatsila sub-division on March four necessitated the election.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has put up former Health minister Dinesh Sarangi as its candidate and the Bahujan Samaj Party has fielded former MP Salkhan Murmu while Vikash Mukherjee is the Jharkhand Vikas Party candidate
