RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh police on Saturday found the bodies of the 12 policemen missing after an ambush by Maoists two days ago in a forest in Dantewada district.

IGP (Bastar range) R K Vij told TOI, "The bodies of the 12 missing policemen were recovered by the police on Saturday morning." Search teams led by Dantewada SP Rahul Sharma reached the ambush site in the morning and brou-ght the bodies to a nearby police station in Golapalli.

Vij said all the 12 policemen killed in the ambush had put up a stiff resistance before they went down. "They were outnumbered by the Naxals," he said. On Thursday, a 33-member police team had come under fire in Taragura, about550 km south of capital Raipur. All but 12 members of the police team returned in two batches safely after the gun battle by late Thursday night.
