Ranchi: The 48-hour statewide bandh called by the Maoists began yesterday midnight with the Maoists blowing up railway tracks, school building and raising road blockades.

The Ultras left a tree on Bodan-Patamda road in Jamshedpur and when the villagers tried to remove the tree this morning, an explosion took place leaving at least two persons injured.

Additional police forces were rushed to the area, police said, adding it was yet to be confirmed if the explosion was caused by landmines or IED.

Railway tracks between Mahaguan and Bano under Ranchi rail division were blown up in the wee hours today leading to disruption of train movment, official sources said, adding services were restored later.

The Ultras also caused an explosion on railway tracks between Dania and Jageshwar Bihar railway stations under Dhanbad railway division.

Several trains remained stranded on both sides of CIC section following the explosion, a Dhanbad division railway official said.

In the Naxal-dominated Palamu district, a school building, meant to be used for polling booth in Pipra village under Hariharganj police station, was blown up.

The rebels called the bandh alleging that the state police arrested one of their associates who was yet to be produced before the court.

''The police arrested a member of our zonal committee Ashok Mahato from Nayatola under Angara police station few days ago,'' a Maoist spokesperson said in a statement issued recently.
