Maoists kill CPM leader in Jhargram

Kolkata: Tapan Mahato (34), a local CPM committee member in Jhargram, was killed on Monday by suspected CPI (Maoist) cadres.

According to a senior police officer, around 10 people stormed into the house of Tapan Mahato early this morning. They dragged Mahato out of his house and shot him. The body was thrown on the road at Sirshi in the Jhargram police station area. “We have sent our forces to recover the body,” said Manoj Verma, SP, West Midnapore.

The joint forces, meanwhile, recovered 10 IEDs and a few improvised guns from three villages in the Salboni police station area on Monday. “After a specific tip-off, a team of officers of joint forces carried out a search operations in the villages of Salboni block. The mines were recovered from Madhupur, Memul and Mathurapur,” said Verma. At least five mines were recovered from pits dug beside the roads in Salboni.

A senior officer of Salboni police station said the forces are carrying out a search operation which began at 1 am. A huge cache of arms have been seized and the consignments have been sent to the local police station
